“You must make a decision that you are going to move on. It wont happen automatically. You will have to rise up and say, ‘I don’t care how hard this is, I don’t care how disappointed I am, I’m not going to let this get the best of me. I’m moving on with my life.”

Holiday Gratitude

Today is the first day of winter.  At 6 am the darkest day of the year began and so did winter.  Winter for me is always a time of introspection, the time of the hibernating bear.  A time to reflect on decisions, situations, and choices made during the past year.  2012 was a year of great conflict and growth.   Exuberant happiness and deep sadness.  As I get ready for an afternoon of cookie baking with my daughter I am listening to the sound of 26 bells tolling for the lost souls of Sandy Hook Elementary.  Gratefully I smell the freshly shampooed hair of my daughter as she sorts sprinkles, flour, cookie cutters, unsweetened cocoa, various types of sugar and decorations and send love to those grieving parents.  Hugging my child close we talk about what this year brought.  Our dog Daisy spent five weeks in ICU after a corrective surgery went horribly wrong, Michaela learned to knit and crochet, we introduced chickens at home and now celebrate our daily gathering of eggs, our friend Doug died in a horrible car accident, and so many other events that mark 2012.  In light of all that happened we remain committed to helping where we can and giving what we can to those in need.  Michaela, my daughter, made snowflakes for the surviving children of Sandy Hook so they will be able to see them in their new school.  With the innocence possessed only by a child she sang as she cut the shapes from patterns intelligently downloaded from the computer and held each one up for my approval.  Her smiling face reminds me that in time we will all heal, that time goes by and the pain lessens and may even become bearable for those directly impacted just before the holidays.  My prayers for the holidays for the parents of Sandy Hook children and teachers, our downed soldiers, and all parents struggling with mental health issues in their children are heartfelt.  May they never feel alone, may they know always they are loved, and mostly may they know how much we all treasure the children whomever they belong to.  I am off to make gingerbread men and a house.  This year for me the cookies will taste all the more sweet because I baked with my child.

Easter Rebirth

After a long journey bringing two dear friends home from Florida during the past two days I am grateful for the spirit and renewal of Easter.  My work as most of you know creates small changes over a long period of time to create a big change when all of the pieces come together as part of the natural healing system.  While traveling and seeing the dramatic changes that have occurred in these horses more validation of the power of small subtle changes rings more true than ever.  My two horse friends have undergone training and excelled and yet the space to process these changes in new thought forms, physical expressions of their amazing athletic ability, and mental processing of information was left unavailable.  Space as I refer to frequently in my work as you know between spinal joints, muscle fibers, thoughts, and boundaries between horse and rider, I have come to realize on this latest trip, are primary. Without the space between the physicality remains confused with only muscle memory without the harmony created between the mental and physical and I would add spiritual.  I am grateful my friends are in their beloved home to rest and rejuvenate this spring day.  And to be reborn.  As my work is reborn a deeper commitment to space between and  subtle energetic boundaries are more committed than ever.  May we all remember as we embrace the beauty of spring that energy is stronger when given space to breathe and in that way be uplifted so we may reach our true connected potential.

Orange oil is my hero!

For anxiety I use essential oil of Orange.  Place two to three drops on your palm, rub together, and wave near your nose or child or animal you are trying to help.  It works so quickly and takes the emotional edge off the situation.  My daughter worships it and uses it before new situations, test anxiety, and meeting new people.  Plus my highly reactive horse calms right down after he smells this fantastically sweet scent!  I find it helps with focus as it removes the stress that causes a  lack of clarity and fogginess of mental states.  It is unbelievable how helpful it is.  The oil can burn sensitive skin and also make you photosensitive which is why I wave it near the animal or person and do not apply directly to skin.  Enjoy your scentual experience!

I love Autumn.

One of the things I love most about living in New England is the fall. Walking to my barn with coffee in the morning to feed and water my horses I enjoy the crispness of the air and happy sounds the birds sing. The leaves are changing color now and dropping. Sweaters get pulled out of their summer packaging and long pants replace shorts. The gold, orange, and burgandy colors match the crispness in the air and the apples and pumpkins so abundant in North Salem. People come from all over to attend Fall Festivals, apple pick, and sample local farmer specialties. If you are in North Salem, NY, Harvest Moon Orchard on Hardscrabble Road has the best pumpkin cheesecake you can imagine. Stop by for a free sample and enjoy fall at its best!
